Two power units at nuclear and thermal power plants in Russia were shut down due to malfunctions, leading to power outages and disruptions in the regions.

In Russia, a power unit at the Rostov nuclear power plant has been shut down due to malfunctions, UNN reports citing the Astra Telegram channel.

At Rostov NPP, the automatic protection system shut down one of the power units. The reason is a malfunction at the turbine generator. The radiation background remains normal, Rosatom said. Due to the failure, a 1.5 GW power consumption limitation was introduced in southern Russia.

Later, Astra reported that more than 100 power substations in Krasnodar were out of service, causing about 150 traffic lights to be out of service. A number of streets were left without electricity.
