Olena Berezhna was sentenced to 14 years in prison for high treason. She prepared materials for the Russian representative to the UN and spread Kremlin narratives through Medvedchuk's media.

Olena Berezhna, a member of the inner circle of former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, was sentenced to 14 years in prison. She was engaged in subversive activities in Ukraine, hiding behind the head of a public organization. This is reported by UNN with reference to the press service of the SBU.

Details

The woman was detained in March 2022 in Kyiv. According to the investigation, she was preparing theses for the speech of the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN at the 11th session of the General Assembly, which took place at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Using the official letter of her organization, she helped to discredit Ukraine in the international arena and justify Russian aggression.

The court found her guilty of high treason (part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced her to 14 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigation found that Berezhna also prepared “reports” for the occupiers on the situation in Ukraine and appeared on Viktor Medvedchuk's TV channels, spreading Kremlin narratives under the guise of a “public asset.

During the searches, the police seized Berezhna's cell phones and flash drives, which she used to subvert activities in favor of Russia.
