Lego has opened a $1 billion toy factory in Vietnam that will operate without greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, using only clean energy. This is reported by UNN with reference to the Associated Press.
The factory in the Binh Duong industrial zone, near Ho Chi Minh City, is the first in Vietnam to aim to operate only on clean energy. Lego assures that it will do so by the end of the year.
Details
The Lego branch in Vietnam is the sixth company of this Danish manufacturer in the world and the second in Asia. It will use high-tech equipment to produce colorful Lego bricks for the growing markets of Southeast Asia.
We just want to make sure that the planet that children inherit when they grow up is a planet that is still habitable. It has to be functional
Addition
The new factory is an important step in Lego's ambition to stop greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The company has a short-term goal to reduce emissions by 37% by 2032. The private group manufactures plastic construction sets based on oil and says it has invested more than $1.2 billion in finding more environmentally friendly alternatives. But these efforts have not always been successful.
Vietnam, which is developing rapidly, also aims to achieve zero emissions by 2050, so it needs more factories that will use clean energy. The country hopes that the plant's 12,400 solar panels and energy storage system will help set a precedent for more sustainable production.
