Israel demands that Lebanon comply with the terms of the agreement
According to the commander-in-chief, the actions of Israeli troops in the area of the Beaufort ridge and in southern Lebanon are carried out in accordance with the ceasefire agreements brokered by the United States. At the same time, he stressed that any threat to Israeli military personnel or civilians will be "immediately eliminated."
Zamir also stated that the Lebanese armed forces must fulfill their obligations under the agreement and clear the southern part of the country of Hezbollah militants and military infrastructure. Israel claims to have recently discovered a network of tunnels under Beaufort Castle, which, according to its data, the group used as a fortified center near the Israeli border.
Beaufort Castle is of strategic importance to Israel. Its troops previously captured the fortress during the invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and used it as one of the main observation posts until the withdrawal of troops in 2000. After the new escalation of the conflict, the Israeli army again took control of the area around the castle.
