A man, posing as a buyer for an NBA player, swallowed diamond earrings in the VIP lounge of a Tiffany & Co. store. Police arrested the thief and seized $769,500 worth of jewelry after a two-week surveillance.
A thief pretended to buy jewelry for an NBA player, and when he was taken to the VIP room of a jewelry store, he swallowed the jewelry. Police kept the man under surveillance in the hospital for several days. UNN reports with a reference to the BBC and Spiegel.
Jeytan Gilder entered the VIP room of the Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando on February 26 and stole four valuable diamond earrings. An employee of the Tiffany & Co. store tried to stop him, but to no avail, because the thief swallowed the stolen jewelry to hide the evidence. According to the police, before that he pretended to be an employee of an NBA player, for whom he allegedly wanted to buy jewelry.
The would-be kidnapper was detained. In prison, Jeytan Gilder allegedly asked the staff: "Will I be charged with having it in my stomach?".
Later, the police released an X-ray showing a person's abdomen with a foreign object inside.
An X-ray by the Orlando police revealed a foreign object in the body cavity. Detectives took Gilder to a local hospital and watched him for about two weeks until the earrings were found.
