During an interview for the Town podcast, Denis Villeneuve recalled his favorite childhood movies, among which he named "Star Wars". The dune director said it wasn't his dream to make such a film, as Return of the Jedi ended the franchise in 1983. However, this does not indicate Denis Villeneuve's disinterest in working with Lucasfilm.

I was the target audience. I was 10 years old. It slammed into my brain like a silver bullet. I became obsessed with Star Wars. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is the movie I've been waiting for the most in my life. I've watched the movie a billion times on the screen. I was traumatized by it. I love Star Wars

Denis Villeneuve said.

"The problem is that it all went off track in 1983 with Return of the Jedi, "he continued. "It's a long story. I was 15 years old, and my best friend and I wanted to take a taxi, go to Los Angeles, and talk to George Lucas-we were so angry!"

According to the director, after Return of the Jedi, The Star Wars franchise "crystallized in its own mythology, very dogmatic, it looks like an instruction, without any surprises."So because of that, he doesn't dream of Shooting Star Wars.

Thanks to the film "Dune", which brought the Director great recognition, many already consider Denis Villeneuve an icon of the space genre. He is currently developing a third film, Dune, which will be based on Frank Herbert's second novel Dune, Messiah in Dune.

"If i do a thirdthat is in the process of writing , it won't be like a trilogy," the director said. "It's weird to say this, but if I go back there, it's doing something that feels different and has its own identity.
