CEC of Belarus registers Lukashenka and 4 other candidates for the 2025 elections

The Central Election Commission of Belarus has registered 5 candidates for the presidential election to be held on January 26, 2025. Western countries have already announced that they will not recognize the results of the upcoming elections due to the undemocratic nature of the process.
The CEC of Belarus has registered the current head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, as a presidential candidate. It also registered four other candidates for the elections scheduled for January 26, 2025. Several Western governments have already announced that they will not recognize the results of these elections.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has registered five candidates who will run in the presidential election to be held on January 26, 2025. These are Alexander Lukashenko, Oleg Gaidukevich, Sergei Sirankov, Anna Kanapatskaya and Alexander Khizhnyak.
The last presidential election was held on August 9, 2020: Lukashenko supposedly won with 80.1% of the vote, but protests began immediately after the election. In November 2020, Lukashenko announced that he would not run for president after the adoption of the new Constitution.

According to the CEC, Llukashenko's candidacy was supported by 2,518,145 citizens, the head of the Liberal Democratic Party, Oleh Haidukevych, by 134,472, the first secretary of the Communist Party's Central Committee, Serhiy Syrankov, by 125,577, individual entrepreneur Anna Kanapatska, by 121,077, and the head of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice, Oleksandr Khyzhnyak, by 112,779.
At the same time, the governments of several Western countries have already stated that they will not recognize the results of these elections.
The elections in Belarus are taking place in the context of a political crisis, large-scale repression and, according to international organizations, are unfree and undemocratic. There are no officially registered opposition parties or independent civil society organizations left in Belarus.
