Brovary joined the international recovery program with the support of UNDP and the Government of Japan.

The brovarsky community participates in the international reconstruction and Development Initiative, which is being implemented by UNDP with the support of the Government of Japan. Mayor Igor Sapozhko in an exclusive comment UNN said that this program allows you to strategically plan the development of society, focusing on inclusivity, transparency and efficient use of resources.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine, together with the Ministry of community, territory and infrastructure development of Ukraine, with the support of the Government of Japan, in 2024 began assistance to 20 communities, including Brovarskaya. Its goal is to support communities in inclusive and transparent planning of recovery and strategic development of communities. the initiative is implemented within the framework of the UNDP project "transformational restoration of human security in Ukraine".

Participation in the program is extremely important for our community. This is not only an opportunity to participate in the processes of inclusive and transparent restoration, but also a chance to strategically plan the further development of our community, taking into account modern challenges and opportunities

According to him, the event "Academy of inclusive and transparent restoration and development of communities", which was held in Kiev, became an excellent platform for the exchange of experience between communities from different regions of Ukraine. Representatives of the Brovary community had the opportunity to present their projects, share their best practices and learn from other participants.

"We are grateful to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and our international partners for this initiative. We express our special gratitude to the Government of Japan, which financially supports this project. For us, this is a signal of trust in our community and our ability to develop and implement long – term strategies that take into account the principles of sustainable development and inclusivity," Igor Sapozhko said.

The mayor also noted that the participation of the community in the program will help to use resources more effectively to recover from the destruction caused by Russia, and adapt the infrastructure to modern needs.

"Inclusivity and transparency are not just trending words, they are the basis for successful community development. We have already started working on new projects aimed at improving critical infrastructure, improving the living conditions of residents and attracting investment. The Academy gave us a clear understanding of how to do this even more effectively," he added. 

Sapozhko stressed that the Brovary community strives to be an example for others in creating modern, comfortable and safe living conditions for all its residents. Participation in such international initiatives, according to him, is an important stage in achieving this goal.

The executive committee of the Brovary City Council has prepared a draft program for creating a barrier-free space in the Brovary territorial community for 2025-2029. The total amount of funding for 5 years will amount to more than UAH 51 million.

"This program aims to raise public awareness of equality and non-discrimination, as well as to include all groups of the population in the life of our community. Its goal is to ensure equal access to public and civil facilities, transport, education, culture, work, Sports, Social Services and information for all residents. The program is also designed to strengthen responsibility for violating the rights of people with disabilities and encourage the removal of barriers that prevent them from exercising their rights," Igor Sapozhko stressed.

Among other things, the draft program provides for improving the availability of shelters for people with disabilities in 2025-2029, reconstruction of the pool of the KP "Health and rehabilitation center" so that people in wheelchairs can freely visit it. In addition, it is planned to equip ramps and lifts of a number of other buildings, including residential ones, as well as continue the development of road transport infrastructure.

Also, the local authorities plan next year to carry out major repairs of the passenger elevator in the local hospital and routine repairs of ramp thresholds in the surgical building, infectious diseases department, consultation and Diagnostic Center, at the entrance to the women's consultation, etc. In 2026, it is also planned to replace the hospital elevator, but the passenger-cargo one. In addition, by 2030, it is planned to repair the bathrooms of the medical institution, taking into account the needs of people with disabilities.

Olena Hakobyan , an adviser to the mayor of Brovary, told UNN that all state institutions in Brovary are accessible to people with disabilities. All major shopping centers are equipped with ramps, elevators, and hygiene rooms for people with disabilities. Various commercial institutions and organizations have become more likely to seek advice on how to properly equip or redo entrances so that they are accessible to people with disabilities.

In addition, a project on diving rehabilitation is being implemented in the city for Ukrainian military personnel who lost their limbs defending Ukraine from Russian invaders, family members of the victims, internally displaced persons and veterans.
