Ukraine and European partners have created the Anti-Ballistic Coalition, which launched the creation of a joint anti-ballistic system FREYJA. Ukraine is represented in this joint project by the defense company Fire Point, which will provide its own development – the ballistic interceptor missile FP-7.x. A number of industrial giants from European countries are expected to join the work on FREYJA. Which companies will work together with Fire Point and what exactly they produce – read in the article by UNN.
For the full deployment of an air defense system, having only a missile is not enough. In particular, radars, command centers, and other components that will be integrated into a joint complex are needed. Also, representatives of Fire Point have repeatedly stated that the FP-7.x requires a homing head. All these components are available from European partners.
As explained by the chief designer of Fire Point, Denys Shtilerman, FREYJA was immediately conceived as a joint project that would be built on an open architecture and with the possibility of integrating existing technological solutions.
On July 13, at the signing of a joint declaration by the leaders of the participating countries of the Anti-Ballistic Coalition, representatives of defense companies were also present. Then the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, named them: HENSOLDT, Thales, Diehl Defence, Saab, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, Weibel, Leonardo, MBDA, Eurosam, Safran, and Destinus.
Radars from Hensoldt
The German company Hensoldt is one of the leading European manufacturers of high-tech radar systems and has long been cooperating with Ukraine. In particular, the TRML-4D radar stations, which are used as part of the IRIS-T SLM surface-to-air missile systems, have demonstrated high effectiveness in repelling Russian air attacks.
Back in June of this year, the German company and Fire Point signed an agreement under which Hensoldt will join the implementation of the FREYJA project and provide its radars. The radar systems covered by the agreement are the multifunctional TRML-4D, capable of simultaneously detecting and tracking over 1,500 targets at a range of up to 250 kilometers, as well as the SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII, designed for detecting and classifying ground, sea, and air targets at low altitudes.

Thales
The French corporation Thales is a globally recognized manufacturer of electronics for the defense and aerospace industries. Thales designs and produces a wide range of radars (including Ground Master and Ground Surveillance), sonars, electronic warfare systems, and optoelectronic sensors for ground, underwater, and air detection. Thales also has laser-guided missiles in its portfolio, and the corporation develops advanced command and fire control systems.
Thales supplies radars (Ground Fire) for the SAMP/T NG air defense system. This radar has a range of up to 400 km and panoramic coverage. It can likely also be integrated into FREYJA.
In addition, Thales acts as an integrator of the fire control system (command, control, and fire management system: ME-NG – next generation engagement module), developed in partnership with MBDA.
Together with another company from our list – Leonardo, the French corporation is exploring the space sector: communication, observation, and navigation satellites.
Diehl Defence
Diehl Defence GmbH & Co. KG is a leading German manufacturer of guided missiles and ammunition. This company is the manufacturer of the IRIS-T air-to-air missile. The company's products also include the ground-based air defense systems IRIS-T SLM, IRIS-T SLS, and their modifications.
In April of this year, Diehl Defence signed a cooperation agreement with Fire Point. The details were not disclosed, but in June it became known that it concerns the deployment of production of FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles in Germany. The German company also stated its readiness to provide its homing head for missiles to the Ukrainian manufacturer.

Saab
Swedish manufacturer of aviation, naval and ground defense equipment, the Saab concern, produces, among other things, Gripen fighters. In June 2026, a contract was signed for the production of 16 Gripen E for Ukraine. The concern also has in its portfolio 5th generation A26 submarines, NLAW portable anti-tank systems, anti-drone solutions, and hydroacoustic systems.
Among what the Swedish concern can provide for the implementation of the anti-ballistic shield project, attention should be paid to Giraffe radars, especially Giraffe 75 and Giraffe Mk IV – powerful multifunctional radars that provide early threat detection, as well as combat control systems.
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace
Norwegian manufacturer of missile and air defense systems, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, together with Raytheon/RTX (USA), developed the NASAMS air defense system, which is in service with more than a dozen countries. The concern also produces the JSM missile, designed for integration with F-35 fighters.
From open sources, it is known that FREYJA command posts can also be deployed based on the Kongsberg Fire Distribution Center complex.
Weibel
A global specialist in Doppler radars - that is how the Danish company Weibel characterizes itself. Their arsenal includes X-band tracking radars (XENTA series) — detection and classification of drones, projectiles, missiles, helicopters; XENTA-C radars for anti-drone protection of borders and critical infrastructure; GFTR - a series of illumination and guidance radars. Potentially, the Weibel GFTR-2100/48 radar could be integrated into the anti-ballistic system.
Leonardo
The Italian concern Leonardo has a fairly large portfolio of defense products: helicopters operated in more than 130 countries, as well as radars, guns, ammunition, electronic warfare systems, and optoelectronic systems. This concern is also developing the space direction, in particular in partnership with the already mentioned company Thales.
MBDA
The multinational corporation MBDA (France / Great Britain / Italy / Germany) is the largest European manufacturer of guided missiles. It is on the basis of this joint venture that the famous Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG missiles are produced. Also in the MBDA portfolio are air-to-air missiles: Meteor; anti-aircraft missiles Aster 15/30 (for SAMP/T), Mistral, CAMM, as well as anti-ship missiles.
Eurosam
A joint venture of MBDA (66%) and Thales (33%), a specialized manufacturer of long-range air defense systems. Eurosam is the developer and manufacturer of the SAMP/T ground-based air defense system and the new generation SAMP/T NG, which is called the only European alternative to the American Patriot.
A notable feature is that Eurosam air defense systems are based on a modular architecture with specific modules or "building blocks" that can be combined to fine-tune each system.
Safran
French Safran is an aviation and defense concern, a European leader in optoelectronics and navigation. The enterprise manufactures aviation and missile engines — propulsion systems for MBDA missiles (Mistral, SCALP, etc.), has in its portfolio a new anti-drone system Land OmniGuard and Euroflir optoelectronic systems integrated with Bayraktar TB2 drones. The manufacturer also has its own unmanned aerial vehicle – the Patroller tactical reconnaissance drone.
UAV Patroller
Safran is one of the world leaders in GNSS-independent inertial navigation. The GEONYX inertial navigation system provides stable guidance in conditions of electronic warfare and GPS jamming. Production of this system has increased sevenfold since 2022.
Destinus
A joint Swiss-Dutch enterprise that started as a manufacturer in the field of hypersonic aviation. Today, it produces, among other things, Ruta Block 2 cruise missiles with AI guidance for operation in the absence of GPS, the Hornet drone interceptor, and a line of Destinus D/E/G drones.
As we can see, each of these companies is a powerful player in the defense market. Involving such giants will allow partner countries to deploy anti-ballistic defense based, in particular, on the capabilities already available in their arsenal.
