The Verkhovna Rada on Thursday appointed Serhiy Koretsky, who heads NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, as the new Prime Minister of Ukraine, replacing Yulia Svyrydenko, who was dismissed from this position on Tuesday, reports a UNN correspondent.

Draft resolution No. 15414 "On the appointment of Koretsky S.F. as Prime Minister of Ukraine" was supported by 289 people's deputies.

"Appoint Serhiy Fedorovych Koretsky to the position of Prime Minister of Ukraine," the resolution states.

What is known about Serhiy Koretsky

Serhiy Koretsky was born on March 14, 1978 in Lutsk. He obtained higher education in the specialties "Automobiles and Automotive Industry" (2001) and "Enterprise Economics" (2005) at Lutsk Technical University, and in the specialty "Oil and Gas Extraction" at Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. In 2019, he completed training under the Executive MBA program at the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School.

He began his career at the Continuum group of companies, where he advanced from an employee of the analytical department to general director. In 2002, he headed the joint venture "Western Oil Group", and from 2007 he was CEO of the management company of the Continuum group. Since 2013, Koretsky became the general director of the WOG company. During this period, he was involved in developing and implementing company development strategies, attracting financing, conducting negotiations with investors, and supporting M&A transactions.

In 2018, Serhiy Koretsky left Continuum and in 2019-2022 was engaged in his own business. On November 9, 2022, Koretsky was appointed director of PJSC Ukrnafta and PJSC Ukrtatnafta. Under his leadership, Ukrnafta increased oil and condensate production and gas production, becoming a profitable state-owned company with record financial results.

In 2018, the AMCU accused two companies linked to Koretsky of collusion during an auction for the purchase of premises for a coffee shop.

People's Deputy Oleksiy Kucherenko accused Koretsky of manipulating profits through a court dispute between Ukrnafta and Ukrtatnafta, which he simultaneously headed.

On Tuesday, July 14, the parliament with 258 votes supported the resignation of the head of government Yulia Svyrydenko along with the Cabinet of Ministers.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy then stated that after consultations, he considers Serhiy Koretsky the most prepared person for the position of Prime Minister of Ukraine.

And after that, Zelenskyy officially proposed that the Verkhovna Rada appoint Serhiy Koretsky to the position of Prime Minister.
