The Full Moon will "meet" with one of the brightest stars in space

The Full Moon will meet the brightest star in the constellation Virgo, called Spica, on April 12, creating a spectacular sight in the evening sky.

This is reported by UNN with a reference to The Guardian.

Details

Although the Moon officially becomes full only early in the morning of the next day, already in the evening of April 12 it will be indistinguishable from the full Moon to the naked eye, as more than 99% of its visible surface will be illuminated.

The chart shows the view to the southeast from London at 22:00 Central European Time on April 12, 2025. Spica is the brightest star in the constellation Virgo and the 16th brightest star in the entire night sky, with a mass 11.43 times that of the Sun and a radius almost 7.5 times that of the Sun.

This giant star emits approximately 20,500 times more light than the Sun. While light reflected from the Moon's surface reaches Earth in just 1.3 seconds, light emitted by Spica travels through space for about 250 years. There is a subtle difference in color between them: moonlight has a silvery hue, while Spica's light has a blue hue.

Addition

The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope managed to take stunning images of the spiral galaxy NGC 4941, which is located approximately 67 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo.

Also, a combination of observations from the Gaia space telescope and the ground-based Gravity instrument allowed scientists to photograph the satellites of eight bright stars that had not been discovered before.
