Since November 24, Kyivstar has launched the Starlink Direct to Cell satellite communication technology, which allows users to stay connected even without terrestrial coverage. During this time, more than 2 million Ukrainians have used the technology, and now it is also available for iPhone users. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

Details

Most users connected to Starlink Direct to Cell in Kyiv, Lviv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil. At the same time, the most active SMS exchange is recorded in the South and East of Ukraine, where communication remains critically important.

The technology allows a regular 4G-enabled smartphone to connect directly to Starlink satellites in areas without terrestrial coverage. Currently, the service is only available for exchanging SMS messages.

Initially, the technology was only available to Android smartphone users, but after recent updates, Starlink Direct to Cell became available to iPhone 13 owners and newer models with iOS version 26.2.

To use it, you only need a smartphone and a 4G-enabled SIM card, as well as being outdoors. In addition, Starlink Direct to Cell coverage extends to all controlled territory of Ukraine, with the exception of temporarily occupied territories, active combat zones, and border areas.

SMS is just the first stage. In 2026, the operator plans to expand the technology's capabilities: voice calls and mobile internet will become available. Use Starlink Direct to Cell and stay connected under any circumstances.

- stated the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

Recall

The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine explained how to stay online using xPON technology, which provides internet for up to 72 hours without electricity. To connect, you need to find a provider that uses xPON and arrange for the installation of an optical cable to your home.
