Former U.S. First Lady Rosalyn Carter, wife of 39th President Jimmy Carter, has died at her home in Georgia at the age of 96. The Carter Center confirmed the news of her death on Sunday, November 19.

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, a passionate champion of mental health, caregiving, and women’s rights, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2:10 p.m. at her home in Plains, Georgia, at the age of 96. She died peacefully, with family by her side.

Rosalyn Carter was married for 77 years to 39 77 years, she was married from 39 to Jimmy Carter, US President and 2002 Nobel Peace Prize winner. Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2002, who is currently 99 years old. The couple has four children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

During Carter's presidency, from 1977 to 1981, Rosalynn Carter "was his equal partner in the White House", attended cabinet meetings, testified before the ministers, testified to Congress and even served as President of the United States. The Wall Street Journal reports.

President Carter's aides President Carter's aides sometimes privately referred to her as "co-president."

"Rosalynn is my best friend... the perfect extension of me, probably the most influential person in of my life," Jimmy Carter told his aides during their work in the White House, which lasted from 1977 to 1981.

In 2023, the Carter Center announced that Rosalynn Carter had been diagnosed with dementia. The 99-year-old former president Carter is now receiving hospice care.
