According to police, a 36-year-old suspect was detained on the evening of June 20 after receiving several reports of attacks in different areas of the city. The victims are men aged 22, 22, 24, 27, and 39. Three of them were hospitalized, but their lives are not in danger.
Among the victims are Muslims
The charity Muslim Engagement and Development reported that several victims are Muslims. According to the Scottish Association of Mosques, two men were attacked after attending prayers at a local mosque.
Videos also circulated on social media showing a man with a long weapon moving through the streets of Edinburgh and damaging property. In another recording, presumably the same man, during his arrest, shouts phrases about "protecting the country."
The Muslim Council of Britain stated that the community is "rightly nervous and concerned" after the incident. They also emphasized that such violence is "a direct consequence of political rhetoric that demonizes entire communities."
