Russia is intensifying military provocations and hybrid activity near the borders of NATO countries, testing the Alliance's readiness to respond. In particular, in recent days, the activity of Russian military aviation over the Baltic Sea has significantly increased. This is reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation, according to UNN.

Details

The CCD noted that Polish fighters have been scrambled for three consecutive days to intercept Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea. In just one day, pilots twice escorted two Su-30 fighters and an Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft.

As Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized, with such actions Russia is testing the capabilities of the Polish air defense system.

The Center also drew attention to the fact that European leaders are increasingly warning about the risks of further escalation from Moscow.

In particular, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Russia is clearly preparing for broader aggression against the Baltic states, Moldova, and other European countries. According to him, Germany is already facing sabotage, espionage, and cyberattacks linked to Russia.

At the same time, the Baltic states are strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure facilities. Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs reported an urgent reinforcement of security at a strategic hydroelectric power plant and the gas storage facility in Inčukalns due to the risk of sabotage.

The CCD also recalled that earlier, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, citing intelligence data, warned of possible preparations by Russia for provocations in Poland or the Baltic states. In turn, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated the risk of Russia conducting a "false flag" operation using Ukrainian drones.

Russia's systemic provocations - from dangerous maneuvers of military aviation to the preparation of physical sabotage - are forcing European countries to accelerate the strengthening of their defense capabilities. The Kremlin's attempts to intimidate Europe and sow panic are having the opposite effect, mobilizing allies to resolute counteraction

- emphasized the Center for Countering Disinformation.
