Robert Habeck
Former Vice-Chancellor of Germany
Robert Habeck, a German politician and writer, was born on September 2, 1969, in Lübeck. He was educated at the University of Freiburg, Roskilde University (Denmark), and the University of Hamburg, where he received his master's degree in 1996 and his doctorate in philosophy in 2000. Before starting his political career, he worked as a freelance writer.
His political journey began with his election to the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament in 2009, where he held positions including Deputy Minister-President and Minister for Energy Transition, Agriculture, Environment, and Digitalization until 2018. From 2018 to 2022, he co-chaired the Alliance 90/The Greens party, and from December 2021 to May 2025, he served as Germany's Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. From September 1, 2025, he resigned from the Bundestag to dedicate himself to academic work, focusing on research, teaching, and learning at the Universities of Copenhagen and California.
