Details

US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth said on Sunday that the United States will ensure "strong, rapid and reliable deterrence" in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Taiwan Strait, in response to China's increased military pressure on the island.

During his visit to Japan, Hegseth joined Japanese Defense Minister Gena Nakatani in condemning China's "aggressive" actions.

The United States is committed to maintaining credible, rapid and reliable means of deterrence in the Indo-Pacific region, including through the Taiwan Strait

Hegseth said at a press conference.

The Pentagon chief's speech came after his meeting with Japanese Defense Minister General Nakatani and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

Context
