As noted, the Ukrainian military is about one-sixth of the total number of soldiers who have been trained in the country over the past two years.
According to Taavi Laazik, a spokesperson for the Estonian Defense Staff, the training of Ukrainians was based on the training programs of the Estonian Defense Forces. He noted that the training of Ukrainians also brings practical benefits to the Estonian Defense Forces
"The exchange of knowledge and experience is an important part of every training course, and it is a two-way process. The defense forces are closely monitoring events in Ukraine, and feedback and experience is also collected from Ukrainian units and soldiers who are trained here. This information is analyzed and used in our own training and development of our capabilities," said Laazik.
The costs of training the Ukrainian military are covered both bilaterally and within the framework of the European Union Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM).
