A 38-year-old Kharkiv woman gave birth to her daughter at home and put her in a tied plastic bag, where the baby died. The court sentenced the woman to three years in prison, despite her non-admission of guilt.
In Kharkiv, a 38-year-old woman was sentenced to three years in prison for the premeditated murder of her own newborn child.

Details
The tragedy occurred at the end of November 2022. The woman gave birth to her daughter in her own apartment without the help of doctors.
Instead of taking care of the baby, she put the baby in a plastic bag, tied it up, and left the baby without access to air. The girl died.
At the trial, the woman pleaded not guilty. She said that after giving birth, she cut the umbilical cord with scissors, put her daughter in a bag, went to rest in another room, waiting for a roommate.
The expert examination confirmed that the accused was aware of her actions and could direct them.
The woman was found guilty under Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (premeditated murder by a mother of her newborn child during childbirth or immediately after childbirth — is punishable by restriction of liberty for up to 5 years or imprisonment for the same term).
Currently, the deadline for appealing the verdict continues.
