From London to Rome and Paris: where buildings around the world were illuminated in blue and yellow on Independence Day

On Ukraine’s Independence Day, iconic structures in six countries around the world were illuminated in blue and yellow. The displays became a symbol of solidarity.
On Ukraine’s Independence Day, August 24, iconic buildings in the United Kingdom, Canada, Belgium, Moldova, France and Italy were illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine. This was reported by Ukrainian diplomatic missions, government institutions and authorities of the respective countries, UNN writes.

In London, the Palace of Westminster, where the British Parliament sits, lit up in blue and yellow. The Parliament of the United Kingdom said that in this way the country demonstrated its support for the Ukrainian people on the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
In Canada, the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, as well as the prime minister’s office building, were illuminated in Ukrainian colors. The Ukrainian Embassy called the illumination a symbol of friendship and solidarity between Ukraine and Canada.

Europe also joined the solidarity campaign
In Brussels, the buildings of the European Commission and the European Council were illuminated in blue and yellow. The illumination took place on the eve of Independence Day, and the European Commission emphasized its support for Ukraine and its struggle for sovereignty, democracy and the right to determine its own future.
In Chișinău, the building of the Parliament of Moldova was illuminated in blue and yellow. In this way, the Moldovan side joined international actions in support of Ukraine on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of its independence.
France also joined the symbolic campaign. In Paris, the Eiffel Tower was illuminated in blue and yellow on August 24. A ceremonial event was scheduled for the evening near the Human Rights Square on the Esplanade of Trocadéro.
In Italy, the Colosseum in Rome lit up in blue and yellow. The Ukrainian Embassy in Italy reported the illumination of one of the capital’s main landmarks on August 24 as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.
York also joined the campaign in the United Kingdom. The city authorities reported that on August 24 the historic Bootham Bar gate on the city walls was illuminated in blue and yellow. The campaign was organized at the request of the Ambassador of Ukraine and as a sign of support for Ukrainians and the city of Lviv, with which York is developing partnership ties.
Thus, on Ukraine’s Independence Day, blue-and-yellow illumination appeared on iconic state and historic buildings in various countries around the world, becoming a symbol of support for Ukraine and its people.
