Axios: Vance heads to Islamabad for talks, Iranian team also gets 'green light'

US Vice President J.D. Vance is expected to depart for Islamabad by Tuesday morning US time for talks with Iran on a potential ceasefire agreement, with the Iranian team also having received a "green light," Axios reported, citing sources, writes UNN.

Vance will arrive in Pakistan as the ceasefire agreement is set to expire. US President Donald Trump has threatened to launch a new bombing campaign against Iranian bridges and power plants if an agreement is not reached.

While a full-scale agreement in such a short timeframe would be difficult, Trump may also agree to extend the deadline if there are signs of progress, the publication writes.

Trump has reportedly already effectively added one day. Although the two weeks agreed upon in the ceasefire agreement will expire on Tuesday, he stated on Monday that the deadline is Wednesday evening US time.

The White House spent all of Monday awaiting a signal from Tehran that it would send its negotiating team to Islamabad.

A source familiar with the matter said that the Iranians were delaying amid apparent pressure from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on negotiators to take a harder line: no negotiations without an end to the US blockade.

Pakistani, Egyptian, and Turkish mediators urged the Iranians to attend the meeting.

"The Iranian team was waiting for a green light from the supreme leader. According to the source, it came on Monday evening," the publication states.

Two sources said Vance would depart on Tuesday morning, and a third said late Monday evening.

Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are also expected to travel to Islamabad for talks.
