John Reichart, 74, in Indianola, Iowa, is decorating every home in his neighborhood for the upcoming holidays. This initiative is influenced by difficult circumstances in the life of his family.
Reichardt's wife, Joan, 53, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease - it was discovered 4 years ago, and since then, the Marine Corps veteran has set out to preserve the woman's memories.
"If it wasn't for my wife, I do not know if I would have done it. But she wanted Christmas, so I would give it to her. I would do anything to make her happy, " Reinhart said.
Many additional hands are currently working on his project to help install lights, decorations, and more. A steady stream of fans also come to see the festive mood.
"I think the whole neighborhood feels very happy that he lives next door," one neighbor said.
