Air defense, long-range ammunition, and drones — how Ukraine will scale up cooperation with Spain

Ukraine and Spain have decided to scale up cooperation. As reported by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov, it concerns air defense, long-range ammunition, and drones, UNN reports.

I met with the Minister of Defense of Spain, Margarita Robles. We agreed on key areas of cooperation to strengthen defense capabilities and implement key security priorities. I thanked Spain for the decision to allocate €1 billion in aid in 2026. We discussed how to use this resource most effectively according to our needs.

- Fedorov reported.

Separately, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine noted the aid package announced during the visit - VAMTAC armored vehicles and a batch of 155-mm shells.

Fedorov also outlined the priorities for cooperation:

🔹 strengthening air defense;

🔹 providing long-range artillery ammunition;

🔹 scaling up the production of Ukrainian drones.

According to him, Spain's contribution to the PURL mechanism and support for the supply of missiles for Patriot systems is important - this is critical for protecting the sky and preserving infrastructure. We are working on integrating different types of missiles and increasing the effectiveness of their use.

One of the priorities is to provide long-range artillery ammunition. We agreed on further cooperation in scaling up the production of Ukrainian drones. A separate track is the development of air defense capabilities. We are working on modernizing decommissioned equipment and deepening cooperation with Spain to expand their capabilities. We also discussed Spain's participation in a joint European project to create anti-ballistic solutions.
