G7 countries supported strengthening Ukraine's air defense, pressure on the Russian Federation, and providing Ukraine with an energy package for the winter; additionally, the acquisition of licenses for the production of anti-ballistic systems and missiles was discussed with US President Donald Trump, and "teams will work on it," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists after a special session on Ukraine at the G7 summit, UNN reports.
Support for Ukraine
"First of all, I want to say that everyone supports Ukraine. In my opinion, it is a very important signal that all G7 countries—and this was evident throughout our summit today—fully support Ukraine. All countries condemned the strikes on civilian infrastructure, on our people, on the Lavra. Everyone saw—I showed some photos—the relevant strikes, the fires, and how our guys heroically stopped the fire," Zelenskyy noted.
According to him, "everyone condemns, and everyone truly does not understand the logic" of aggressive Russia.
Pressure on the Russian Federation
"Everyone believes that the war must be stopped in any case. This is logical; everyone believes that they do not see a desire from Russia's side, that it is playing games, meaning that Putin, above all, does not want to end it, but he must be forced to. Primarily through sanctions—all countries spoke about this, Canada, Britain; you know that Keir, I thanked him, they stopped a shadow fleet tanker, and all countries will be engaged in this, implementing the relevant steps into life," the President indicated.
Air Defense and Anti-Ballistic Licenses
"We talked about what Ukraine needs—air defense; everyone recognizes it, everyone will help, absolutely the entire G7 will work on strengthening our defense; we talked about both systems and missiles. No details for now; more details can be provided later," Zelenskyy noted.
"Furthermore, I raised the issue—we discussed this with President Trump, our teams will work, God willing it will work out this time—for us to obtain licenses for the production of relevant anti-ballistic systems and missiles,"
Energy Support for the Winter
"Next, we talked about the energy package, and here the President of France raised this issue. We all understand—both Ursula and Antonio—that additional funds are needed to physically protect our facilities, air defense, as I mentioned. Diesel, gas, gasoline—what we need for the winter; if the war does not end before then and there is a deficit, all partners will provide support," Zelenskyy indicated.
"Such a 'winter package,' as I called it, I explained in detail what we need; all countries said they would support us. Japan, Germany, and all other participants who were at the summit today," he added.
Restoration of the Chornobyl Sarcophagus and the Lavra After Russian Strikes
Also, according to him, "separately, France said that it understands all the dangerous strikes using drones by the Russian Federation and France will rebuild the sarcophagus in Chornobyl."
"I thanked them for this, and separately I want to remind that yesterday... and thank Switzerland; I had a meeting with the President in the evening, we discussed the restoration of the Lavra, and they, together with our specialists, will be working on this. Thank you, Switzerland, for such an initiative and support," he added.
Movement Towards the EU
"As for the EU, everyone understands that despite the war, Ukraine is taking steps forward; the entire G7 supports our membership in the EU, both Ursula and Antonio; everyone recognizes that we opened the cluster absolutely fairly, and all clusters will be opened; so far, no one sees any slowdowns in this process, God willing it continues this way," the President said.
Drone Deal
"We will work on the Drone Deal; this is well-received, everyone recognizes our leadership in supporting the Middle East thanks to our expertise; we will make a large Drone Deal with Canada, and we already see how our middle-strike and long-range sanctions are affecting the restriction of energy resource sales by the Russian Federation; they have major problems; everyone recognizes that they need to end this war urgently, otherwise aid to Ukraine will be further increased," Zelenskyy noted.
