Germany assures that Ukrainian men will not be deprived of refugee status in the country, despite Ukraine's decision to temporarily suspend consular services for men aged 18-60 abroad.

Ukrainian men will not be deprived of their refugee status in Germany, the German Interior Ministry has assured. The denial of consular services will not affect the status of Ukrainian men who are refugees in Germany. This was stated by the official representative of the German Interior Ministry Maximilian Kall, reports DW, according to UNN.

Details

The German Ministry of the Interior assured that the decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to temporarily suspend the provision of consular services for male citizens aged 18 to 60 who are abroad will not affect the status of refugees in Germany.

I am confident that this will not affect the status of refugees from Ukraine in need of protection, regardless of whether it is women, who are the vast majority of such refugees, or men,

- German Interior Ministry spokesman Maximilian Kall emphasized.

Such temporary protection is available to Ukrainian refugees in all European Union countries because they were forced to flee their homeland to escape Russian aggression, Kall added at a government press conference in Berlin.

At the same time, neither he nor the spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry wanted to comment on Kyiv's decision to stop consular services for Ukrainian men of military age who are also in Germany.

This is a sovereign decision of Ukraine, which I cannot comment on behalf of the German Foreign Ministry,

said Christian Wagner, a representative of the agency.

Recall

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new applications for consular services from Ukrainian men aged 18-60 who are temporarily abroad due to the new law on military service and mobilization, which will come into force on May 18, 2024.
