The Italian government stated that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will take part in the meeting alongside her British, French, German, and Polish counterparts. This group, known as "E5," was formed in 2024 following growing calls for the rearmament of Europe and improved coordination of support for Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the meeting will take place this week, without specifying the date.
At the G7 summit last week, which was attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, leaders agreed to increase supplies of air defense systems to Ukraine and strengthen sanctions against Russia. G7 leaders also agreed to grant licenses to companies based in Ukraine to produce long-range missiles and air defense systems, a diplomatic source reported.
