According to the Chisinau city authorities, an emergency situation has been declared in the city due to the outbreak of bird flu.
"An emergency situation has been declared in Chisinau municipality due to an outbreak of bird flu in swans in Lake Gidighici," the statement reads.
Citizens were urged to limit the access of poultry to meadows, lakes, rivers and other open water bodies.

On Wednesday, December 20, environmental inspectors found 65 dead swans on the banks of the Reut River near the village of Lunga, Floresti district. According to preliminary data, the bird flu could have caused the deaths.
