Ukraine is facing a difficult situation in the power system, there is no shortage at the moment, but cold weather and high level of outages may cause problems in the future; Ukrenergo calls for economical use of electricity

The situation in Ukraine's power system is complicated. There is currently no shortage, but amid the cold snap, power units may fail. This was reported on Monday by Ukrenergo and the Ministry of Energy, UNN writes.

The situation in the power system is difficult. High accident rates at power units and the predicted cold snap may cause a shortage in the power system. There is no export today. The volume of imports is insignificant. Please consume electricity sparingly,

Ukrenergo said.

Generation

According to Ukrenergo, the situation in the power system remains difficult. In the morning, one of the heat power plants in the south stopped working due to damage caused by shelling. During the day, 5 units at thermal power plants in different regions were taken out of service for various technical reasons. Solar power plants cannot operate at their maximum capacity due to dense cloud cover across the country.

"Electricity generated by Ukrainian power plants is still sufficient to meet the needs of household and legal consumers. Ukrenergo's dispatch center does not yet predict a deficit in the power system during the day," Ukrenergo said.

However, forecasters are reportedly warning of a gradual cooling throughout the week. "The associated increase in consumption may lead to a shortage of electricity in the system. Therefore, in order to maintain the balance between production and consumption in the power system, it is necessary to conserve electricity," Ukrenergo emphasized.

According to Ukrenergo, no consumption limits have been introduced. "No blackout schedules have been introduced and are not expected," the company said.

The Energy Ministry also indicated that "there is no shortage of electricity," adding that "restrictions on electricity supply are not applied in any of the regions."

"The power system is balanced," the Energy Ministry said, adding that all outages are related exclusively to bad weather and hostilities.

Power outages

In Odesa region, power supply has been fully restored to consumers cut off due to bad weather on November 25-26, Ukrenergo reports.

Yesterday, December 3, bad weather again left some Ukrainians without electricity. This time in the western region. In total, 145 settlements in Zhytomyr, Lviv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions were cut off from power in the morning, according to Ukrenergo.

Due to the fighting and other reasons, 420 settlements are reportedly without electricity. The shelling caused new damage to the power company networks in Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions.

Exports/imports

"There are no exports today. Electricity is being imported for 1 hour in the evening from Slovakia and Romania, totaling 82 MWh. Starting December 1, the technical possibility of importing electricity from Europe to Ukraine and Moldova is 1700 MW," Ukrenergo said.

Electricity imports amounted to 892 MWh yesterday. There were no exports, according to the Energy Ministry.

ZNPP

"The water level in the cooling pond is 15.68 meters. This is sufficient to meet the needs of the plant," the Ministry of Energy reported.
