Ukraine purchased 70 ATACMS missiles and 12 M270 launchers from Turkey

Kyiv bought 70 M39 ATACMS missiles, 12 M270 MLRS launchers and thousands of cluster munitions from Ankara. The transfer of the weapons will begin after the 15-day review of the deal by the U.S. Congress.

Ukraine has purchased US-origin weapons from Turkey. In particular, the famous ATACMS ballistic missiles. This is stated in US State Department documents published in the official record of the US Congress proceedings on August 6, 2026, UNN reports.
Details
In total, Kyiv purchased from Ankara:
- 70 M39 ATACMS missiles;
- 12 M270 MLRS launchers;
- 2,524 M26 rockets with cluster warheads;
- 47,000 203 mm cluster artillery shells.
The transfer of the weapons is planned to begin after the 15-day period for congressional review of the agreement has ended. The US State Department submitted the relevant documents to lawmakers on August 3.
Congress does not have to vote separately on the transfer of the weapons.
If, within 15 days, the House of Representatives and the Senate do not adopt a joint resolution opposing the agreement, US authorization for the re-export will automatically take effect.
The deliveries will be carried out through Turkish, Bulgarian, and US defense and logistics companies.
The State Department explained that Turkey wants to dispose of some outdated munitions and direct the funds toward modernizing its army. Ukraine, meanwhile, plans to use these weapons to strengthen its offensive and defensive capabilities in the war against Russia.
