U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Ukrainians on the 35th anniversary of Independence and stated that the United States remains committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty and continues to work toward achieving lasting peace.
In his greeting, the U.S. Secretary of State recalled that August 24 marks 35 years since Ukraine declared independence from the Soviet Union.
"On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Ukraine on the 35th anniversary of Independence," Rubio said.
He added that the United States is committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty and continues to make efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war through negotiations that will result in lasting and sustainable peace.
Rubio also highlighted the courage, innovation and resilience of Ukrainians and stated Washington’s intention to continue developing cooperation with Kyiv in the economic and security spheres.
"The United States reaffirms its firm commitment to strengthening economic and security ties between our countries and paving the way toward peace and prosperity for both our peoples," he noted.
The European Parliament stands in solidarity with Ukraine in its struggle for freedom
President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, for her part, once again emphasized that Ukraine’s freedom is Europe’s freedom.
"Today, on Independence Day, we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who are courageous, unbreakable and determined to remain free," Metsola wrote on her page on the social network X.
Finland’s Foreign Minister wished Ukraine peace and a bright future
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day and emphasized Finland’s support and friendship. She noted that Finland highly values its partnership with Ukraine, which is based on shared values and cooperation.
According to the head of Finland’s Foreign Ministry, cooperation between the two states contributes to strengthening security, democracy and prosperity in Europe.
"Together, we are contributing to a more prosperous, safer and more democratic Europe," Valtonen emphasized.
She also wished Ukrainians peace, prosperity and a bright future.

Ukraine has become Europe’s defensive shield — Lithuanian Foreign Minister congratulates Ukrainians on Independence Day
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys congratulated Ukraine on the 35th anniversary of Independence and stated that, by resisting Russian aggression, Ukraine has effectively become a defensive shield for Europe.
Budrys addressed his congratulations to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and all Ukrainians.
"Thirty-five years ago, Ukraine chose freedom, independence and its own future. Today, Ukrainians are defending this choice with extraordinary courage and an unbreakable spirit," the head of Lithuanian diplomacy noted.
According to him, by containing Russian imperialist aggression, Ukraine is defending not only its own statehood but also the freedom and security of all Europe.
"By holding the line of defense against Russia’s imperialist aggression, Ukraine has become Europe’s defensive shield. Every day, by repelling the aggressor’s attacks, you defend Europe’s freedom and security, as well as every nation’s right to determine its own future," Budrys said.
The minister emphasized that military, humanitarian and financial support for Ukraine is an expression of the solidarity and responsibility of European countries toward Ukrainians fighting for the continent’s common future.
"Helping Ukraine defend its freedom through military, humanitarian and financial support is more than an act of solidarity. It is our responsibility to the Ukrainian people, who are fighting for our common future – a Europe free from terror, imperialism and fear," he stressed.
Budrys also assured that Lithuania would continue to firmly support Ukraine, its sovereignty, territorial integrity and its path toward membership in the European Union and NATO.
In conclusion, Budrys congratulated Ukrainians on the holiday with the words: "Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! Glory to Ukraine!".
"From generation to generation" – the UK Foreign Office emphasized the strength of Ukrainian identity
The United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day, emphasizing that Ukrainian independence is not only a date, but also a language, culture, community and identity, according to a message from the British foreign policy agency on the social network X.
The British Foreign Office emphasized the importance of national identity, which is passed down from generation to generation.
"Ukraine's Independence Day is more than just a date. It is language. Culture. Community. A shared identity passed from one generation to the next," the message said.
Lisbon condemned the attacks on Ukraine and confirmed continued support
Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulated Ukraine on the 35th anniversary of its independence and reaffirmed its support for its sovereignty, territorial integrity and European future. The ministry also emphasized that Lisbon would continue to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its European future.
