Mobile substations, repairs, and new reserves – Ukraine has begun preparations for winter

Ukraine discussed the progress of preparing the energy system for the next heating season. This includes the restoration of power plants and networks, UNN reports with reference to the official Telegram channel of the Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.

Details

The head of the relevant ministry met with participants of the domestic energy market on April 22.

We analyzed the current state for each priority: repairs, reserve, international support, protection, modernization, specific solutions, indicators, and deadlines. In particular, we discussed the implementation of the repair program. We analyzed each object: what has been done, what is in progress, and whether we will be ready for the autumn-winter period. Our task is to ensure maximum available capacity by winter.

- said Shmyhal.

To do this, according to him, they are now clarifying what equipment and resources energy companies still need in order to further attract partners' assistance for their purchase.

Separately, during the meeting, they discussed how to speed up the supply of equipment from abroad. Currently, together with the Energy Community Secretariat, the Ministry of Energy is working to simplify procurement procedures through a special energy support fund. The plan is to almost halve the delivery times for critically important equipment to avoid losing time.

A reserve of equipment is also being formed. The priority is mobile substations that can be quickly installed in case of damage. They plan to have 50 to 100 such units in reserve.

Another important issue is the protection of energy facilities.

We discussed the state of protection at the facilities, the work being done to strengthen it, and identified further steps."

- specified Denys Shmyhal.

Recall

A few days earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on preparations for winter. He set a deadline for winter preparations by September 1. A number of regions and Kyiv are behind schedule in creating backup power sources.
