Kazakhstan will increase oil transit bypassing Russia 13 times

Kazakhstan plans to ship 1.5 million tons of oil via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) route in 2024, according to Kazakhstan's Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev.

In the long term, the country plans to increase supplies to 20 million tons per year, but no specific timeframe has been announced.

Given the growth in oil production and the launch of new offshore projects in the medium term, we are working to develop additional transportation routes. The direction of the BTC is currently one of the most promising, as there is interest in the development and systematic increase in the volume of Kazakh oil supplies in this direction from both our side and the side of our Azerbaijani partners

Satkaliyev said that in the future Kazakhstan plans to supply oil through the Baku-Supsa pipeline (Azerbaijan-Georgia). The estimated volumes of supplies could reach 3 million tons per year, with a pipeline capacity of 5 million tons. This route is currently under discussion and elaboration.

In addition, work is underway on the Eskene-Kuryk oil pipeline project with an estimated technical capacity of 20-30 million tons per year.

It is specified that 1.2 million tons of Kazakh oil were supplied via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route in 10 months. Initially, the raw materials are sent to the port of Aktau for further transportation across the Caspian Sea. Oil is exported to Italy, the Netherlands, France, Greece, Turkey and other countries.

In 2024, Kazakhstan plans to export 68.8 million tons of oil (78% of the total production of 88.4 million tons).

The bulk of supplies will be made through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium - 55.4 million tons. It is planned to export 8.6 million tons to Atyrau-Samara, 1.1 million tons to China, and 3.6 million tons to the port of Aktau.
