Details
According to the police, two brothers stopped answering calls, and a few days later, law enforcement officers found their bodies buried in a forest strip in the Poltava region.
A report of the brothers' disappearance was received by the Kyiv region police on July 3. Immediately after that, investigators and operatives began a large-scale set of search measures.
During an inspection of the missing persons' residence, the police, as stated, "found signs of a serious crime: damaged video surveillance equipment, traces of gunshots, and other physical evidence."
Law enforcement officers processed dozens of video surveillance cameras, analyzed vehicle movement routes, identified the vehicles used, and collected evidence that allowed them to gradually reconstruct the chronology of the crime.
"As a result of special operations, operatives of the criminal investigation department, investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kyiv region, the Bila Tserkva district police department, with the help of criminal analysts and with the force support of the KORD special units and the internal security of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained nine suspects. All of them are servicemen," the police statement reads.
It was established that "the day before, a verbal conflict arose between one of the brothers and a local resident because the young men were loudly listening to music and riding motorcycles. In response to the remark, the brothers used profanity. Later, the woman's husband, who is a serviceman, demanded an apology to his wife, but the men refused in a rude manner."
"Having decided to take revenge, the perpetrator involved other servicemen in the criminal plan," the police stated.
According to the investigation, "the suspects entered the territory of the victims' household, using firearms, forcibly took the two men by car to another region, illegally held them for a long time, after which they killed them."
"On July 9, police established the hiding place of the victims' bodies. During the inspection, numerous gunshot wounds were found, indicating the particular cruelty of the committed crime," the statement said.
During further investigative actions, "police detained another serviceman, who was notified of suspicion of intentional murder of two persons. It was he who, during an investigative experiment, indicated the place where the bodies of the deceased were hidden."
Investigators of the investigative department of the Kyiv region police, under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Central Region, notified eight members of the organized criminal group of suspicion of illegal imprisonment and kidnapping of people (Part 3 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). They face up to 10 years in prison.
One of the suspects was notified of suspicion of intentional murder of two persons (Clause 1, Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment. Currently, the above-mentioned suspects have been remanded in custody.
"Today, July 13, in the Podilskyi district of Kyiv, operatives of the Kyiv region police, with the force support of KORD, detained the former brigade commander. He has already been notified of suspicion (Part 3 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 146, Part 3 of Article 28, Clauses 1, 3, 9, 12 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment," the police stated.
