The United States has imposed new sanctions against representatives of the Cuban authorities and entities linked to the country's financial, energy, and mining sectors. Among those sanctioned is Fidel Ernesto Castro Calis, the grandson of former Cuban leader Raúl Castro, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, according to UNN.

The state-owned Banco Exterior de Cuba and four Cuban companies were also added to the sanctions list. According to the U.S. Treasury Department, the restrictions target enterprises linked, in particular, to the oil and nickel industries.

The new restrictions became another stage in the tightening of the Trump administration's sanctions policy toward Cuba. On September 3, a total of one individual and five Cuban entities were added to the U.S. sanctions list.
