American actor Jerry Adler, known for his role as Hesh Rabkin in the series "The Sopranos," died on Saturday at the age of 96. This was confirmed by his family. The cause of death has not been announced.
Adler was a key figure behind the scenes on Broadway for decades, even before starting his acting career at the age of 60.
Adler was born in New York, USA. His biography reveals that after school, Adler worked as a director on Broadway, directing several productions. Only much later did he become known, among other things, as an actor.

After several minor roles, he achieved recognition for his role in the mafia series "The Sopranos."
He embodied the character of Herman "Hesh" Rabkin alongside the main character Tony Soprano, played by James Gandolfini. Many viewers agree that Adler became one of the most important, albeit secondary, characters in the series.
Among the actor's works, Woody Allen's film "Manhattan Murder Mystery" (1993) should also be highlighted.
Here's what Adler once said about his late start in acting:
You know what's interesting? You spend your whole career behind the scenes. Nobody knows who you are, or even your name. They don't know anything about you. And then you're on a TV show, and suddenly you're a celebrity, and everyone knows your face. It's so strange.
Among the comments from Adler's friends, it is worth mentioning, for example, the post by Frank J. Riley, who earlier confirmed the passing of the famous actor and director:
Great actor, my friend Jerry Adler, passed away today at 96. You know him from one of his iconic roles and numerous guest appearances. Not bad for a guy who only started acting at 65.
