Portnov's murder - suspect detained in Germany refused Ukraine's assistance

Ukrainian citizen Oleksandr Azizov, who was detained in Germany on suspicion of murdering politician Andriy Portnov, refused assistance from the Ukrainian consulate. This is reported by UNN with reference to ZEIT.

Details

According to the investigation, after Portnov's murder, Azizov studied at a German language school with the aim of getting a job in that country. At the same time, the media established that Azizov often spent time near the bus station in the city of Heinsberg.

There he was detained by German law enforcement officers. Later, during searches of his apartment in Heinsberg, they found the alleged murder weapon, as well as cannabis plantations.

Context

In May 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine confirmed the murder of Andriy Portnov, former deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Viktor Yanukovych.

The National Police of Spain also confirmed Portnov's death.

Later, Antena 3 News TV channel reported that Portnov's alleged killer was arrested in Germany.
