Police officer detained after accident with a van on the oncoming lane

A police officer driving a Toyota Camry is suspected of driving into the oncoming lane and colliding with a minibus. The driver and two passengers of the minibus were hospitalized with injuries.

An official of the National Police in Donetsk region was detained after a traffic accident where, due to driving into oncoming traffic, a car rammed a minibus on a highway in Dnipropetrovsk region, reported the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) on Tuesday, writes UNN.
SBI employees, with the assistance of the leadership of the National Police, detained an official from one of the departments of the National Police in Donetsk region, who on the evening of July 12, 2026, caused a traffic accident in Dnipropetrovsk region. According to preliminary data, he was driving while intoxicated
The accident occurred around 10:10 PM on the Dnipro - Zaporizhzhia highway.
"While driving a Toyota Camry, the law enforcement officer drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a minibus. Due to the accident, the driver of the minibus and two of his passengers sustained bodily injuries. All three were hospitalized with fractures and bruises. The driver of the passenger car also sustained injuries. According to preliminary results of a medical examination, the law enforcement officer was driving while intoxicated," reported the SBI.
SBI employees detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Currently, the issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion is being resolved for violating traffic safety rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which caused bodily injuries to the victims (Part 2 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.
