IAEA completed the eighth mission to assess Ukraine's energy infrastructure

IAEA experts inspected 13 energy facilities in Ukraine that ensure the stable operation of nuclear power plants. During the mission, experts assessed the consequences of Russian attacks on the infrastructure and the associated risks to nuclear safety. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy, writes UNN.

The IAEA has completed its eighth mission to monitor key substations of NPC "Ukrenergo," which supply power for the own needs of nuclear power plants and transmit the electricity they generate to Ukraine's unified energy system

- the statement reads.

During the mission, the IAEA team visited 13 electrical substations, where they familiarized themselves with the consequences of Russian attacks. Particular attention was paid to the condition of substations on which the safe operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants depends. It is the systematic Russian strikes on energy infrastructure that create unprecedented risks for nuclear and radiation safety not only in Ukraine but also in the entire European region.

Permanent international monitoring of such facilities helps to record the consequences of Russian attacks, assess their impact on the safe functioning of the energy system, and inform the international community about the real level of threats posed by Russian energy terror

- added the Ministry of Energy.

The ability to conduct comprehensive monitoring of key Ukrenergo substations resulted from the expansion of the IAEA mission's mandate in September 2024, following an agreement between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
