Romania announced purchase of electricity from Ukraine due to deficit

Nuclearelectrica will import electricity from Ukraine via Energocom to cover the deficit caused by the shutdown of Unit No. 1 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant. The cooperation reflects the long-term partnership between Romania and Moldova.
Romanian state-owned electricity company Nuclearelectrica on Monday announced that it will import electricity from Ukraine through the company Energocom from the Republic of Moldova to cover the production deficit caused by the shutdown of Unit No. 1 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, reports UNN.
Nuclearelectrica is purchasing energy from Ukraine with the support of Energocom, an energy supplier in the Republic of Moldova. The imported energy will be used to cover the energy deficit caused by the shutdown of the first unit of the Cernavodă NPP and, indirectly, to reduce the impact of this deficit on the Romanian energy market
The company stated that "Nuclearelectrica and Energocom have a long-term partnership, also embodied in a memorandum of understanding signed in 2023, to ensure energy resilience and mutual support between the two companies, indirectly between Romania and the Republic of Moldova." "The current cooperation reflects the mutual and sustainable nature of this partnership. Just as Romania and Nuclearelectrica contributed to ensuring the energy security of the Republic of Moldova, the support now provided by Energocom demonstrates the importance of bilateral relations built on solidarity," the statement reads.
"The current difficult situation in Romania and at the regional level, caused by the extremely low water level of the Danube River, requires long-term partnerships and strong commercial relations that allow mutual support and maintain the stability of the national energy system," emphasized Nuclearelectrica.
