During the attack on June 2, Kyiv residents took cover in the overcrowded metro with tents. The enemy deployed 729 targets, causing casualties and significant destruction.

The Kyiv Metro was overcrowded on the night of May 2, when Russia attacked Ukraine with several types of missiles and a large number of strike drones. This was reported by the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, on her official Telegram channel, according to UNN.

There was almost no room in the Kyiv metro in the middle of the night. Everything was filled with people hiding from the Russian shelling. Some even had to stand for several hours while the attack lasted

Photographs from the capital's metro, published by local communities on social media and Telegram channels, show that many city residents came to the metro with their sleeping bags and even tents to protect themselves from the cold in the underground and sleep until the end of the night attack by the Russian Armed Forces.

People also brought inflatable mattresses and folding beds so as not to sit on the bare floor of the metro stations.

Context

On the night of June 2, Russia carried out a massive combined attack on Ukraine, using 73 missiles of various types and 656 strike drones. The main direction of the strike was Kyiv; Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava region, and other regions were also under attack. As a result of the shelling, more than 10 people were killed and over 100 were injured.

According to the Air Force, radio-technical troops recorded a total of 729 drones and missiles with which the aggressor attacked the country.  Russian troops used 8 3M22 "Zircon" anti-ship missiles, 33 "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles, 27 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 5 "Kalibr" cruise missiles, as well as 656 strike UAVs of the "Shahed", "Gerbera", "Italmas" types, "Banderol" loitering munitions, and "Parody" type decoy drones.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

As of 08:30, according to preliminary data, air defense shot down or suppressed 642 targets - 40 missiles and 602 drones of various types. In particular, 11 "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles, 26 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 3 "Kalibr" missiles, and 602 enemy UAVs were destroyed.

At the same time, hits by 30 ballistic missiles, 3 cruise missiles, and 33 strike drones were recorded at 38 locations. Debris from downed targets also fell at 15 locations.

The greatest destruction of civilian infrastructure was recorded in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv.

In the capital, rescuers worked in almost all districts - at 29 locations. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 4 people died in Kyiv, and more than 60 residents sought medical assistance. Among the victims is a three-year-old child who received shrapnel wounds.

In Kyiv, residential buildings, a car dealership, a utility company, an academy, outbuildings, a gas station, as well as the territory of the MIA service center No. 8041 were damaged. Separately, the Kyiv City State Administration reported damage to five medical institutions in four districts of the capital. There were no casualties among medics and patients, as they were in shelters.

Severe consequences of the attack were also recorded in Dnipro. Apartment buildings were destroyed there. According to official data, 9 people died, including a child. Another 35 residents were injured, and there is information about 6 missing persons.

Among those killed in Dnipro was a rescuer, deputy head of a fire and rescue squad, Major Anton Yarmolenko. According to Ihor Klymenko, he was heading to a call at the moment of the strike.

Also during the night, a rescuer and two civilians were injured in Kamianske. In Kharkiv, residential buildings and a food enterprise were damaged, and more than 10 people were injured. In addition, the Russians struck the energy sector in the Kharkiv region and critical infrastructure in Kharkiv.

Damage to civilian objects was also recorded in Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv regions, in Zaporizhzhia, and the Kyiv region. In the Kyiv region, rescuers extinguished fires in residential buildings, a postal terminal, and cars.
