The continental squash championship is nearing its conclusion in Budapest, Hungary. Squash is a new Olympic sport that will make its debut at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
On the eve of the tournament, Spain’s Marta Dominguez, a world student champion, withdrew from the competition. As a result, Ukrainian Alina Bushma, who ranks 48th in the world rankings and trains and resides in Philadelphia, received the No. 3/4 seed.
The Ukrainian athlete began her path to the medal in the round of 32, where she confidently defeated Norway’s representative, 11:3, 11:4, 11:2. In the round of 16, Alina defeated her opponent from Germany, 11:6, 11:4, 11:1, and in the quarterfinals, she beat another representative of Norway in four games, 7:11, 11:6, 11:4, 11:5.
In the semifinals, the Ukrainian faced the top seed and world No. 9 Tinne Gilis of Belgium. The match ended in the opponent’s favor, 7:11, 8:11, 5:11.
In the match for third place, Alina was supposed to face France’s Melissa Alves, who was also seeded No. 3/4, but her opponent withdrew from the tournament.
