Ukraine demands UN mission to investigate terrorist attack in Olenivka as soon as possible - Lubinets

Ombudsman Lubinets calls on the UN to resume the mission to investigate the explosion in the Olenivka colony. Ukraine is ready to provide materials, but the UN has not yet agreed to consider them.

The UN mission has never agreed to review Ukrainian materials on the explosion in the Olenivka colony in Donetsk region on the night of July 28-29, 2022. Ukraine calls on the UN to fulfill its mandate and investigate the massacre in Olenivka. This was emphasized by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets on the second anniversary of the terrorist attack in Olenivka, UNN reports .

The Ombudsman reminded that those killed in Olenivka had the official status of prisoners of war and were verified by the ICRC." 

Ukraine appealed to the UN and the ICRC as guarantors of the agreements regarding the defenders of Azovstal. The agreements stipulated that their lives would be spared and that they would be exchanged.

The organizations expressed their readiness to investigate the attack. On August 3, 2022, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the organization was preparing a group of experts for this purpose. Five months later, he disbanded the mission due to lack of security guarantees.

Russia has not granted access to Olenivka to either Ukraine or international organizations. The UN mission has never agreed to get acquainted with the Ukrainian materials on the explosion in the colony. He also said that he had offered to visit the site of the tragedy with the Russian Ombudsman, but was refused.
