The General Staff has confirmed the damage to the Novoshakhtinsk refinery in the Rostov region of Russia. A fire broke out at a catalytic cracker unit at the facility, which supplies fuel to the Russian army.

On the night of December 19, the Defense Forces struck  the production facilities of the Novoshakhtyn Oil Products Plant, located in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation. A fire broke out. This was reported on Thursday by the General Staff, UNN reports.

Last night, the Ukrainian Navy and the Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, struck at the infrastructure and production facilities of Novoshakhtyn Oil Products Plant JSC in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation

It is noted that this is the only refinery operating in the Rostov region. It is used to meet the needs of the Russian armed forces. It specializes in the production of fuel oil, furnace, marine and diesel fuel, and straight-run gasoline. The design refining capacity reaches 7.5 million tons of oil per year.

“A fire has been confirmed in the area of the facility, namely at the catalytic cracker ELOU-AVT-2.5. More detailed information on the consequences of the damage is currently being clarified,” the General Staff added.

Yuri Slyusar, the governor of Rostov region, confirmed that “as a result of a UAV attack in Novoshakhtinsk, a fire broke out at the Novoshakhtinsk oil products plant.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that its air defense system “destroyed” 84 unmanned aerial vehicles overnight: 36 - over the territory of Rostov region, 21 - over the territory of Bryansk region, 14 - over the territory of Belgorod region, six - over the territory of Voronezh region, three - over the territory of Kursk and Tambov regions and one - over the territory of Krasnodar region.
