Mykhailo Tsymbaliuk believes that the issue of changing the name of Brovary to Brovari should be put to a local referendum. The MP emphasizes the importance of taking into account the opinion of the community in such matters.

The opinion of the community should be taken into account when changing the names of settlements. One way to study this opinion may be to hold a local referendum. This was stated by the People's Deputy of Ukraine Mykhailo Tsymbalyuk in a commentary to UNN.

The MP emphasized that the possible change of the name of the city of Brovary to Brovari is not related to decommunization, and therefore the position of the community must be taken into account.

Despite the current conditions of martial law, in any case, it is necessary to consult with the community and hold public hearings. Today, only the community should decide what the name of the settlement should be. This is the only way to make decisions. When we talk about decommunization, it is true that when we talk about Chervonohrad, it is one story, when we talk about Brovari, it is quite another,

- said Mykhailo Tsymbalyuk.

He added that one way to finally put the issue of this controversial renaming to rest would be to hold a local referendum.

If we are talking about local self-government, the European Charter of Local Self-Government requires a referendum on important issues. In a situation where territorial communities have gained more rights, it is important that such issues are put to local referendums,

- summarized the MP.

At an extraordinary session, members of the Brovary City Council almost unanimously approved an appeal to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk with a request not to submit for consideration the draft resolution on renaming Brovary to Brovari.

This resolution was previously registered by a group of MPs led by a representative of the Golos faction, Roman Lozynskyi.

According to the mayor of Brovary, Ihor Sapozhko, there are three conclusions of scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine that the name "Brovary" is historicaland should be preserved.

Residents of Brovary do not support the initiative of the Verkhovna Rada to change the name of their city to Brovari. This is evidenced by a survey conducted by journalists of UNN on the streets of the city.
