"Putin will pay an official visit to the PRC on May 19-20," the Kremlin statement said.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that "Putin will pay a state visit to China on May 19-20" "at the invitation of President Xi Jinping."

Putin's visit at the invitation of the Chinese leader is "timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation, which is fundamental for interstate relations," the Kremlin indicated.

This pact, signed by former Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Putin in 2001, as Bloomberg notes, committed Russia and China to a long-term strategic partnership and formalized economic cooperation in a number of sectors.

According to the Kremlin, Putin and Xi will discuss bilateral relations and ways to further deepen the "comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction," as well as "exchange views on major international and regional issues."

Following the talks, Russia and China plan to sign a joint statement and a number of bilateral intergovernmental agreements and other documents.

Putin will also discuss trade and economic cooperation with Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
