Pakistan's Army Chief Asim Munir will visit Tehran on Monday, August 24, to discuss peace and security issues in the region. This was reported by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, Reuters reports, writes UNN.

Pakistan has recently been mediating talks between Iran and the United States aimed at ending the war that began after US and Israeli strikes on Iran in February.
Two Pakistani government sources confirmed Munir's upcoming visit to Reuters. One of them said that Iran and Pakistan maintain direct contacts.
According to the second source, the talks will also cover the latest developments in the conflict, including US President Donald Trump's threat to toughen sanctions against Iran.
He will discuss peace-related issues with Iranian leaders in accordance with the memorandum of understanding in Islamabad, Trump's warning, the situation following the agreement between Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, as well as the issue of the Houthis
Munir's visit comes amid rising tensions surrounding Iran. Tehran is threatening a military response to US plans for new sanctions that could increase pressure on the country's economy.
On Monday, US officials are expected to present details of the planned sanctions, which US representatives say will be the "toughest sanctions in history" against Iran. Donald Trump also warned countries of economic consequences for providing support to Tehran.
