According to the agency, Macron initially said he planned to visit Ukraine in February to sign a bilateral security agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The trip was postponed, and Zelenskyy eventually traveled to Paris to conclude the agreement.

Diplomats said that the second date of Macron's visit to Ukraine was scheduled for early March before it was postponed to the end of this week.

"The two heads of state agreed to remain in close contact, in particular regarding the President's visit to Ukraine, which is due to take place in the coming weeks," the French presidential office said in a statement after a telephone conversation between the two leaders on Sunday.

According to Reuters, Macron's visit was postponed a few days after Russia fired a missile at Odesa while the Greek prime minister was visiting. Macron was also scheduled to visit Odesa.

Two diplomatic sources told the agency that the Elysee Palace  is considering expanding the trip to Ukraine to include the heads of other Western states to join Macron, instead of just a bilateral trip, to demonstrate unity among allies and solidarity with Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron had a phone conversation to discuss the current situation on the battlefield and the results of the International Conference in Support of Ukraine, which was recently held in Paris.
