Driving into oncoming lane and fatal accident: Voznesensk mayor detained after road accident

In the Kirovohrad region, the police are investigating a fatal road accident. The mayor of Voznesensk is involved in the case. This was reported by the Main Department of the National Police of Ukraine in the Kirovohrad region, according to UNN.

Details

On January 28, 2026, a fatal road accident occurred on the R-06 highway connecting "Mykolaiv – Blahovishchenske". It was preliminarily established that the driver of a Toyota Camry car, born in 1988, moving in the direction of the urban-type settlement of Holovanivsk, drove into the oncoming lane. As a result, a collision occurred with a Renault Megane car, driven by a driver born in 1986, who was moving within his lane.

As a result of the accident, the driver of the Renault Megane died at the scene. A passenger of the same car, born in 1977, sustained bodily injuries and was hospitalized.

Based on this fact, investigators have initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The mayor of Voznesensk was detained and notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of road safety rules that caused the death of the victim or inflicted severe bodily injury).

Currently, law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances and causes of the road accident.
