Cuba begins distributing weapons to civilians amid fears of US invasion - media

The Cuban government has begun distributing weapons to civilians and called on the population to prepare for a possible foreign invasion. These actions are taking place against the backdrop of reports regarding the deployment of U.S. military power near the island. This was reported by the Venezuelan newspaper Versión Final, according to UNN.

The threat of military intervention has once again shaken the streets of Cuba. Amid the deployment of United States military power near the island, the Havana government has begun distributing weapons to ordinary citizens, officially calling on them to prepare for an imminent foreign invasion 

As noted, tensions escalated following the U.S. Secretary of State's speech on Capitol Hill. During his address, he did not provide a clear answer regarding the U.S. administration's possible further actions or the scale of potential military or other measures in the region.

Also, according to the publication, correspondent Patrick Oppmann reported that the atmosphere of uncertainty is already affecting life in the Cuban capital. He said that government institutions have already begun discussing operational issues under a possible wartime scenario.
