Canada and the United States are negotiating a new trade agreement, which is expected to be concluded by August 19. It is on this date that Donald Trump announced the introduction of new 50% tariffs on a range of Canadian goods if Ottawa does not resolve issues that Washington considers trade “irritants.”
Carney emphasized that Canada is seeking a broader agreement covering all strategic industries subject to U.S. tariffs imposed under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.
